“Tender, Sanguine“, our most recent piece by longtime Propagule contributor Tremain Xenos, from our Winter 2026 issue. This thing is fleshy, lurid, and seriously immersive in the best way—the way that reveals that peculiar experiential property of storytelling whereby there is no determinate threshold for entry, no point at which one becomes ‘inside’ the world of the fiction, but rather was somehow inside it already the moment before the process of eye-climbing through the text began. This world is—to borrow a few of Xenos’ words—doleful, moribund, aphotic. It’s a world in which the best case scenario is that the homunculi are coming up. I find it to be absolutely bleeding with affect.
